दंडनीति का अपना महत्व हैं. प्रजा के दोषों को नष्ट करने में या दूर करने मैं दंडनीति उस प्रकार समर्थ हैं जिस प्रकार आयुर्वेद शाश्त्र के अनुकूल औषोधि का सेवन रोगी के समस्त वात, पित्त,कफ की विकृति को नष्ट या दूर करने में समर्थ होता हैं.  अपराधी के लिए अपराध की न्यूनता  या अधिकता के अनुसार ही दंड विधान करना "दंड नीति हैं. चाणक्य ने भी कहा हैं की रजा का कर्त्तव्य हैं की पुत्र और शत्रु के लिए उनके अपराध के अनुसार पक्षपात - रहित होकर दंड देवे.क्योंकि अपराध के अनुसार न्यायोचित दंड ही इस लोक और परलोक की रक्षा करता हैं. दंड नीति के आश्रय से उसे प्रजा  के धर्मं ,व्यवहार और चरित्र की रक्षाकरनी चाहिए.यधपि न्यायालय में न्यायाधीश के सामने मुकदमे मैं वादी और प्रतिवादी दोनों ही अपने अपने पक्ष को सच्चा कहते हैं एवं वकीलों के माध्यम से अपना अपना पक्ष सत्य सिध्ध करने में प्रयत्नशील रहते हैं. परन्तु उनमे से सच्चा एक ही होता हैं. इसी अवस्था में दोनों पक्षों को ठीक ठीक निर्णय करने वाले निम्म हेतु हो सकते हैं--- १ द्रष्टि दोष -- जिसका अपराध देख लिया गया हो. २ स्वय्म्वाद अर्थात जो स्वयं अपना अपराध स्वीकार कर लेवें ३ सरलता पूर्वक  न्यायोचित जिरह ४ कारणों का उपिस्थत कर देना ५ शपथ कराना प्रजा की रक्षा के उद्देश्य से राजा द्वारा दंड विधान किया जाता हैं, धन संग्रह के लिए नहीं.  अपराधियों के जुर्माना से प्राप्त हुआ धन, जुए से प्राप्त धन, युध्य में मरे हुए का धन, किसी का भुला हुआ धन , चोरों का धन , अनाथ स्त्री का धन  या र्षक हीन कन्या का धन  और ग़दर वगैरह प्रजा विलाव के कारन जनता द्वारा छूटा हुआ धनों को राजा स्वयं में न लावें.अपराध अनुसार दंड न देने वाले राजाके राज्य में निसंदेह मात्स्य न्याय की प्रवत्ति होती हैं,  NOW A DAYS  politicians, ministers are not following ethics.after the oath ceremony they forget the oaths and starts eating money. corruption is the part of their right. they are born for earning the money. might is right.  no rules for fools.
